In recent news, the Nintendo 3Ds has included Augmented Reality cards!
Augmented reality game development is still in a comparative state of infancy, but this is expected to change as many console devices are adding webcams and interactive tools that will be placing users within the gaming experience. Additionally, AR game developers like Ogmento are securing venture capital for the development and distribution of augmented reality games for handheld applications and mobile devices, but may be adding them for Sony’s EyeToy and Microsoft Xbox’s Project Natal (recently renamed Kinect) projects. Multiple multiplayer AR games may be on the way very shortly, and like the evolution of other video game systems, the first games may be basic, but further ones will blur the line between real world scenery and virtual graphics.
